Great Plains Trust Company was chartered in April 1994 by the Office of the State Bank Commissioner to transact a general trust company business in accordance with the laws of the State of Kansas. The company’s initial business was principally comprised of providing investment management services to employee benefit plans. But the company’s early success allowed it to expand to offer a broader range of services that now include providing investment management, trustee, and custody services to employee benefit plans, foundations, trusts, individuals and individual retirement accounts (IRAs). Great Plains Trust Company’s total fiduciary assets have grown from approximately $100 million at the end of 1994 to in excess of $3 billion today. Great Plains Trust Company has been headquartered in the Kansas City area since its founding.

In January 2011, an affiliated trust Company, Great Plains Trust Company of South Dakota, was chartered. Great Plains Trust Company of South Dakota provides clients access to the favorable trust laws of South Dakota, including the ability to create perpetual (“dynasty”) trusts and self-settled asset protection trusts.

Great Plains Trust Company is privately owned, with employees and board members owning a significant interest in the company.

Kornitzer Capital Management, Inc., (KCM), an investment management firm headquartered in Mission, Kansas, which serves as the investment advisor to the Great Plains Trust Company. KCM was founded in 1989 and is a full-service investment management firm managing assets for institutions, mutual funds, and private clients.
